How people acquire the help of the Public Defender’s Office:

The courts approve appointments to the Public Defender’s Office. The court examines both qualifications and financial situation. In some cases the courts, at time of sentencing, have ordered that fees –in addition to fines and costs — be paid to the General Fund of the County.

A person should contact the Public Defender as soon as possible after the Courts have approved the appointment to that office.
